A color palette of soft cream and rich, coastal blue Sunbrella x 3Beaches Textiles fabrics evoke a sense of calm within the large family home, while layers of patterns and textures create interest.
Meet Indah Island Designer Natalee Bowen
When Indah Island founder and lead designer Natalee Bowen began renovating the Toodyay farmhouse that had been in her husband’s family for six generations, she envisioned a refined coastal haven to capture years of memories. Her design paid homage to the original family home – an 1860s farmhouse on the plains of Australia. She had her work cut out for her, but through months of renovation, her vision was transformed into a living masterpiece in Bowen’s signature style.
Soft grey Sunbrella x 3Beaches fabrics provide comfort, style, and powerful performance for the common areas in Natalee’s home. Bench seating and upholstered cushioned seats will maintain their luxurious look and feel through maximum use.
The History of the Home
The Bowen family home was originally built in the 1860s and has been in the family for five generations. For this reason, the home is particularly sentimental to Natalee and her husband; their goal was to maintain the integrity of the original family homestead to capture the rich family history, while integrating the necessary design updates to make the home livable for generations of the Bowen family to come. Over the years, parts of the home had been destroyed by bushfires, but the main part of the home, which is now the center of their renovated farmhouse, has remained in its original state for over 150 years. Five generations of Bowens have lived on the property, and Natalee’s purposeful design is intended to last for five generations more. To make this goal a reality, Natalee needed her design to stand the test of time.
Natalee combined coastal blue and sage green fabrics to create a snug vignette, and used neutral colored Sunbrella x 3Beaches fabrics to make the living spaces extra durable.
Natalee’s Signature Style
Natalee’s style emphasizes bringing character and unique style into the home design by layering pieces that her clients love. Her design style is curated and collected, but not cluttered, layering textures, colors, and patterns to evoke a sense of eclectic excitement without overwhelming a space. Lush textiles in earthy and coastal tones pair with rattan and woven rugs to create interest and infuse the home with a sense of calm.
In her family farmhouse, she was inspired by the classic Hamptons, New York design look, which is characterized by large and luxurious open spaces, ample natural light and tall ceilings, and creating small, intimate vignettes that tell a story. She wanted to bring this coastal look to the Australian bush to create a unique home for her and her family.
Marrying Indoor & Outdoor Living
To capture Natalee’s Hamptons vision and achieve the longevity to last through years of family memories, she selected fabrics from the Sunbrella x 3Beaches Textiles Range for her indoor and outdoor spaces to incorporate her signature style with an added element of durability. The coastal blue, caramel sand, and soft sage green fabric color scheme is consistent throughout her home, creating a seamless transition between her indoor and outdoor living spaces. From the common spaces like the entryway, great room, and dining areas to her grand wrap-around veranda and spacious pool deck, Sunbrella x 3Beaches Textile fabrics bring equal parts vibrancy and performance to Natalee’s home.
Natalee selected Sunbrella x 3Beaches Textiles for her kitchen and dining space upholstery to provide an extra layer of cleanability and performance to enjoy family meals without stressing about the mess.
