Sarah Vickers, of Classy Girls Wear Pearls and Kiel James Patrick, recently used Sunbrella fabrics to bring her beloved New England sensibilities to style her front porch.
Vickers and her husband are native New Englanders and live in a colonial farmhouse that was built in 1815. Said Vickers, “I love the character and charm of our old home. I like to make updates that freshen up our space while remaining true to fixtures that make our home unique. This sentiment applies to almost any space I work with. New England in itself is a huge inspiration.”
“I love when everything has that lived in feel and looks like it just belongs,” she told us. “Fabrics play a huge role in achieving that aesthetic. Sunbrella fabrics are wonderful because they are so easy to clean and hold up beautifully when left outside all season long.”
Since Vickers’ aesthetic is often influenced by the seasons and our natural surroundings, she is considerate when choosing fabrics that fit in effortlessly with her environment. “Plants play a huge role in my seasonal decor updates,” she said. “In the winter I decorate with mini Christmas trees, fake poinsettias, and holly. In the summer, potted hydrangeas, black eyed susans, and geraniums take center stage. Fall is all about the pumpkins and mums. We tend to go especially overboard in the fall.”
Sarah’s penchant for classic, timeless pieces with the occasional touch of whimsy guides her design style. She confessed, “I'm a maximalist all the way when it comes to our home decor.”
While decorating their front porch, Vickers wanted to remain true to the farmhouse aesthetic while complementing the paint colors of her family’s home: “The green and white striped fabric used for the swing cushion was ideal for achieving the look I was going for and I really saw it as a good base to switch up the look for the various seasons -- holiday, spring, summer, and fall.”
Vickers recommends switching out throw pillows and blankets for each new season: “They really help to freshen up my space in an effortless yet noticeable way.”
