In search of a once in a lifetime adventure? Look no further than the luxurious phinisi PRANA by Atzaro. Residing in the warm crystal-clear waters of the Indonesian islands, the ship awaits voyagers seeking a spiritual awakening through oceanic discovery.
Prana, the Sanskrit word for “life force”, was dreamt up by Philip Gonda and Victor Guasch, owners of several boutique properties around the world. This pair is no stranger to splendor; their most notable creation, Atzaro, a natural and luxury spa hotel in Ibiza, was fittingly the foundation on which PRANA by Atzaro was built.
Inspired by a trip aboard a phinisi named ‘Tiger Blue’, Gonda and Guasch sought to create more than just a luxury yacht. Understanding the importance of tradition and authenticity, these seafaring moguls have redefined oceanic grandeur by creating a welcoming and organic aesthetic reflective of the boat’s Indonesian roots.
The building of a phinisi is an ancient and ceremonial Indonesian craft that was recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2017. The rich history of these ships being used as cargo vessels and warships throughout the Indonesian archipelago is truly captivating. Gonda and Guasch’s phinisi concept looked beyond comfort for an experience that provides travelers with both exceptional service and organic elegance. Gonda and Guasch used their rich experiences paired with a passion for sustainability to forge this idea, finalizing a design and concept in September of 2016 and commencing the 19-month build that October.
Built by Pak Haji Abdullah Hassan, PRANA by Atzaro emphasizes traditional methods and hand-crafted excellence. Now complete, the largest phinisi in the world offers more than 900 square meters of useable space across four majestic decks and nine elegant suites. The PRANA by Atzaro’s abundance of inviting spaces provides ample opportunity to reconnect and rejuvenate, such as morning yoga on the deck or a cinema under the stars. Highlights aboard include the calming properties of Kayu Ulin hardwoods and eco-friendly materials, proving that luxury need not be wasteful. Not only does the boat have a single use plastic ban, but it was even built with sustainability in mind using Urecell foams, hotel grade equipment and styled in Sunbrella fabrics.
“We have over 4,000 square meters of Sunbrella materials onboard – it’s all over the place…from cushions, furniture, toppers. Everything is done with Sunbrella” Gonda remarks.
“We were so excited to jump on the opportunity to partner with Prana,” says Alice Ballenger. “We couldn’t think of a better environment to showcase our durable upholstery fabrics than on an environmentally forward, luxurious phinsi that revolutionizes what adventure and luxury looks like.”
Sunbrella’s reputation of unrivaled durability, even in high traffic areas, reduces the frequency of replacement, making it a worry-free complement onboard this nautical paradise. From the paneling, furniture, curtains, and even sails and bimini top, Sunbrella fabrics have found a fitting home aboard the PRANA by Atzaro, offering durability and versatility for the designers and style and comfort for the guests.
Enhancing the purity of the yacht’s atmosphere, PRANA by Atzaro is dressed in warm, neutral Sunbrella performance fabrics, above and below deck, to welcome guests around every corner and tactfully reinforce the worry-free energy of “prana.”
A vessel like the PRANA by Atzaro requires a variety of textures durable enough to survive unpredictable tropical weather, yet soft enough to provide the lavish comfort needed after a day of diving, kayaking or trekking. Whether you seek peaceful retreat or the thrill of an incomparable adventure, the PRANA by Atzaro is unrivaled.
